With a career-high singles ranking of world No. 9 as of October 24, 2022, and a notable WTA doubles ranking of No. 2 achieved by June 6, 2022, Kudermetova’s achievements are remarkable.

Kudermetova’s journey also includes a Wimbledon 2021 final appearance with Elena Vesnina.

Her debut on the WTA Tour’s main draw occurred in singles at the 2018 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix and in doubles at the 2014 Kremlin Cup, where she teamed up with Evgeniya Rodina.

Notably, he made two ATP Tour doubles main draw appearances at the Kremlin Cup in 2005 and 2008, facing defeats. Demekhine’s tennis career concluded in 2009.

Sergey Demekhine’s coaching journey started with Russian tennis players Alla Kudryavtseva and Vera Zvonareva.

After a brief stint with Kudryavtseva, he became Zvonareva’s hitting partner and coach, guiding her to notable successes, including reaching the Grand Slam finals and a world No. 2 ranking.

Their collaboration concluded in April 2011. Currently, Demekhine is coaching his wife, Veronika Kudermetova, as he continues his involvement in the tennis world.

In addition to his tennis career, Demekhine had a brief modeling career in his younger years. He appeared in several advertisements and magazines.

Three years later, in 2015, Kudermetova and Demekhine began dating. Kudermetova was 18 at the time, and Demekhine was 31.

Kudermetova herself was initially hesitant about the relationship. She said, “At 16, I liked him, but I didn’t even think about anything more.

Probably, it’s my upbringing that affected me. Such thoughts had been unacceptable to me.”

However, she eventually came to terms with her feelings for Demekhine, and they began dating when she was 18.

Kudermetova and Demekhine have been together for over 8 years and are married.

They are both successful tennis players, with Kudermetova reaching a career-high ranking of No. 20 in the world in singles and No. 10 in doubles.

Kudermetova credits Demekhine with helping her to achieve her goals in tennis.

She said, “He is a great coach and a great person. He has helped me to become the player I am today.”

2023 Western & Southern Open

In the opening round of the Western & Southern Open, former World No.1 Venus Williams achieved a notable upset by defeating No.16 seed Veronika Kudermetova with a score of 6-4, 7-5.

This victory marked Williams’ first Top 20 win in four years. Despite trailing 4-1 in both sets and facing set points against her, Williams made a strong comeback to secure the victory.

Kudermetova displayed more winners but struggled with unforced errors, while Williams capitalized on break points to seal the win.

Following this result, Williams expressed her satisfaction with the hard work she put in to prepare for the match.

American Grand Slam champion Sloane Stephens also advanced to the second round with a straight-sets victory.
