The Golden State franchise has announced the promotion of Nick Kerr, one of Steve Kerr kids to the position of head coach for their G-League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Nick previously served as an assistant coach for Santa Cruz since the 2021-22 season, and now, after two years, he is being promoted to take over the leadership role.

Stephen Douglas Kerr is an American basketball coach and former player of Lebanese origins.

He currently serves as the head coach for the Golden State Warriors in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Acknowledged for his exceptional proficiency in three-point shooting, he holds a reputation as one of the most precise long-range shooters in the history of the sport.

Furthermore, he is celebrated as one of the most remarkable coaches in the history of the NBA.

Kerr boasts an impressive record of nine NBA championships to his name, comprising five triumphs during his playing career and an additional four as the head coach of the Warriors.

Nick Kerr, the first-born of Steve and Margot Kerr, has been assigned the head coach of the Santa Cruz Warriors of the G-League.

Nick’s basketball background includes playing for the University of San Diego and U.C. Berkeley during his college years.

His initial exposure to the NBA was with the San Antonio Spurs in the 2017-18 season, where he began his career in the video room.

Following this, he spent the subsequent three seasons working alongside his father in a similar capacity within the Golden State organization before transitioning to his assistant coaching role in Santa Cruz.

Nick Kerr’s appointment comes as a result of the departure of Seth Cooper, who held the head coach position for two seasons and is now moving on to be a part of Golden State’s player development program.

Steve Kerr, Nick’s father, has been deeply integrated into the Golden State setup since the 2014-15 season.

He has contributed significantly to the team’s attainment of four championships and earned recognition as a prominent figure in the realm of basketball coaching.

With the Kerr family’s growing involvement within the organization, there is a sense of anticipation that the team’s on-court dynamics will also flourish.

Nick grew up with two siblings, Madeleine, and Matthew Kerr, with their parents, Steve and Margot, who are married for over 30 years. 

His early love for basketball was sparked by observing his father’s matches during his formative years.

Maddy, his sister, is presently wedded and occupies the role of a corporate associate in a legal firm.

Following in the footsteps of both her father and brother, she also reveled in athletic pursuits in her youth, gaining prominence as a standout volleyball player throughout her schooling.

She even held the position of team captain during her final three years in college.

As for Nick’s younger sibling, Matthew Kerr, sports wasn’t even an option; his passion lies in the realm of artistry.

Opting for a different path, he pursued an education at USC film school, focusing his studies on screenwriting and the craft of comedy TV writing.
