Respected referee Gene Roberson retired after 45 successful years on the field, and throughout his long career, his wife Agnes was always there to support him.
Gene Roberson, known as one of East Texas’ most respected high school football referees, retired after 45 years of calling games.
He spent lengthy years officiating high school football games, primarily in and around Tyler and Arp, Texas.
Gene’s work was recognized at the Tyler TASO (Texas Association of Sports Officials) regional clinic, where he was honored for his decades of service.
He said he felt proud and grateful, and although he had mixed feelings, he knew it was time to step away from the game he loved.
And not to forget, behind his 45-year journey on the field stands someone just as important, i.e., his wife, Agnes Roberson.
Reportedly, Gene and Agnes have been married for a long time, i.e., 46 years, a bond that’s lasted even longer than Gene’s officiating career.
Together in this half-century journey, they have raised two sons, Gabriel and Grayson Roberson, both of whom went on to graduate from college.
Graylon Roberson graduated from Texas State University, and Gabriel attended the University of Texas at Arlington.
Now, Gene and Agnes are proud grandparents to two grandchildren.
