Kyren Williams, an American professional football running back for the Los Angeles Rams, attributes much of his success to the support and guidance of his parents, Larry and Taryn Williams.

Born on August 26, 2000, in St. Louis, Missouri, Kyren began his football journey at St. John Vianney High School.

During his junior season, Williams rushed for 922 yards and 22 touchdowns while also recording 51 receptions for 774 yards and 12 touchdowns.

As a senior, he elevated his game, rushing for 2,035 yards and 26 touchdowns and catching 55 passes for 725 yards.

His outstanding performances earned him the St. Louis Metro Area Offensive Player of the Year title.

Williams continued his football career at Notre Dame, becoming a standout running back.

In 2020, he broke out with stellar performances, earning ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

After declaring for the NFL Draft in 2021, Williams was selected by the Rams in the fifth round in 2022.

Though injuries marred his rookie season, he remained focused on improving and adapting professionally.

By 2023, Williams had emerged as a vital player for the Rams.

He achieved Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors that year, cementing his place among the league’s top talents.

Williams made history by becoming the first Rams player to score multiple touchdowns in each of the first two games of a season, delivering standout performances against the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.

He finished the 2023 season with 228 carries for 1,144 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, adding 32 receptions for 206 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns in just 12 games.

Recognized for his explosive plays and consistency, Williams became a crucial part of the Rams’ playoff success and earned a spot on the NFL Top 100 Players list.

Recently, Kyren delivered a 1-yard touchdown on the Rams’ second drive on November 25, 2024, putting Los Angeles ahead 7-3 in the first quarter, their second first-quarter score this season.

Meet the Williams Family: The Backbone of Kyren Williams’ Rise in the NFL

Kyren Williams’s parents have significantly shaped his athletic journey, from his early years to his professional career in the NFL.

Growing up in a family deeply rooted in football, Kyren was surrounded by inspiration and guidance that helped him develop his talents.

His father, Larry Williams, was a linebacker at Northern Illinois University during his college years.

Although Larry chose not to pursue professional football after graduation, his passion for the sport remained evident as he mentored Kyren through his early football career.

Additionally, Kyren’s grandfather was a defensive back at the University of Missouri.

His uncle, Darren Holmes, played on Kansas State’s defensive line in the early 1990s, while another uncle, James Gregory, was a nose tackle for Alabama.

Kyren’s mother, Taryn, has been a pillar of support throughout his life.

From his high school games at St. John Vianney High School to his professional career with the Rams, Taryn’s presence has been a constant source of motivation.

One of the most touching moments between mother and son happened during a game against the Saints.

After scoring a 10-yard rushing touchdown, Kyren ran to the stands to hand the ball to his mother, a gesture symbolizing her integral role in his journey.

Kyren spoke about this heartfelt moment, saying,

When you say ‘Mama Bear,’ that’s her. She don’t play about her kids. She was all in for me. Seeing her face after I threw her the ball, it was everything. It made me feel as if I was — you know, a great son.

Kyren’s parents not only nurtured his athletic abilities but also instilled core values in him. Reflecting on their teachings, Kyren shared,

My parents have always taught me to be a leader, to always lead and never follow others. Ever since I’ve been playing sports, I always had that natural ability to lead. No matter what it is, they look to me to bring that energy and juice. Every day now at Notre Dame, I have to bring that juice. I have to bring that energy for everybody.
