His parents still reside in their hometown of Magdalena de Kino, in Sonora, Mexico.

Ramón Francisco Urías Figueroa, the professional baseball infielder for the Houston Astros, was born to Mexican Parents, Ramón Urías Sr. and María del Carmen Urías.

His father was a school teacher from Magdalena de Kino, Sonora, Mexico, and was the first person to provide Ramón Urías with some baseball gear, which he recovered after a robbery took place locally.

This indeed left a lasting impression on Ramón. At just 16 years old, he was signed as an international free agent by the Texas Rangers in December 2010.

Before he eventually joined MLB, he also played in the Dominican Summer League for the DSL Rangers, Diabolos Rojos del Mexico, and later in the St. Louis Cardinals’ minor league system, for Springfield Cardinals (Double-A), Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A), and Palm Beach Cardinals (High-A).

Ramón Urías Sr. and María del Carmen Urías Are Proud Parents Of Two MLB Stars

Ramón Urías officially made his MLB debut on August 20, 2020, for the Baltimore Orioles against the Boston Red Sox.

In five and a half seasons with the team, he played 506 games and was the winner of the Gold Glove Award in 2022.

Ramón Urías also has a brother, Luis Urías, who is also a professional baseball infielder.

Like his brother, he was also just 16 when he signed as an international free agent for the San Diego Padres in 2013.

He also spent time in the Dominican Summer League, Low-A Tri-City Dust Devils, Single-A Fort Wayne TinCaps, and High-A Lake Elsinore Storm from 2014 to 2016. He was also awarded the California League MVP Award in the same year.

This helped him advance to Double-A San Antonio Missions, and even represented Mexico in the World Baseball Classic.

He eventually made his MLB debut on August 28, 2018, which was surprisingly two years before his older brother’s MLB start.

In an Instagram Post, Luis has also said he admired his father and showed how important he is in life. He wrote, “The boss of everyone 💙💙💙 stay with me forever 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻”

After two seasons with the San Diego Padres, he had a breakout season with the Milwaukee Brewers, but was traded to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Bradley Blalock in 2023.

In 2024, he played for the Seattle Mariners but was non-tendered after making 41 appearances.

Currently, he is playing for the Oakland Athletics. His new contract was active till the end of the MLB season.

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • Luis Urías has played over fifty games more than his older brother, Ramón Urías.
  • The brothers faced each other during the Orioles vs. Brewers and the Orioles vs. Red Sox series.
  • After Ramón’s latest trade to the Houston Astros, they may face each other multiple times per season, potentially 13–14 games a year.
