The son of Coach Vince Lobendahn, Donne, passed away at La Palma Hospital surrounded by his family and loved ones on August 7, 2025.

While the cause of his death has not been mentioned, it has been reported that Donne Lobendahn’s passing was sudden.

Coach Vince Lobendahn is a former John Glenn High School football coach who led the team from 2014 to 2019.

During that time, the team achieved a 6-5 record and won the 605 League title in its final season, the school’s first undefeated league championship since 1989.

He has also coached at Lakewood High (2011–2012) and is a teacher at John Glenn.

In 2021, he was hired as the football coach at Magnolia High School, where he planned to focus on strong fundamentals, teamwork, and skill development.

Donne Lobendahn, the son of Coach Vince Lobendahn, was a well-known and respected figure in the local football community.

He spent countless hours alongside his father, helping coach football and supporting various programs.

He served as Magnolia High School’s offensive line coach and also coached at Fullerton College.

He worked closely with his father in football programs, contributing his own coaching expertise to the teams they led.

Known for his dedication both on and off the field, Donne played a key role in guiding players and contributing to the success of teams, including being part of the last coaching staff under his father to win a league title.

His unexpected passing, announced by JG Alumni Football, has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him.

Coach Lobendahn is currently at La Palma Hospital, surrounded by loved ones during this difficult time.

The news of Donne’s passing has sparked an outpouring of grief and support from the community, teammates, and friends.

One message read,

Seriously no freaking way. Our prayers with him and family. Stay strong uso. Much alofa.

Likewise, Donne’s nearest one remembered how Donne helped out a lot of the players during that time, on and off the field, further stating:

Huge loss for the JG football family and the JG community. Donne will truly be missed.

One of Donne’s close friends shared heartfelt memories, saying,

NO! NO! NO! I’m so so sad to hear this. Donne was a Gentle Giant. I have very special memories of him at Glenn. My deepest condolences to his family, Dad Vince, my dearest friend Michelle, Toa, and Atalana. RIP Donne.

These tributes reflect the profound impact Donne had on everyone he met and the deep sorrow his sudden loss has brought.
