Willie Weiss was caught cheating by using a foreign substance during a Big Ten Tournament game in May 2022 while pitching for Michigan.

He began his collegiate baseball career at the University of Michigan in 2019 and played there for three seasons, 2019, 2021, and 2022.

During his third active season, he was caught and handed a four-game suspension in May 2022.

Clemson pitcher Willie Weiss once discussed his transfer to Clemson in an interview published on July 27, 2025.

He shared that his move reunited him with coach Erik Bakich, formerly at Michigan, and outlined his role in the Tigers’ bullpen for the upcoming season.

Willie Weiss Transferred To Clemson University Following A Controversy!

Willie Weiss was ejected during the Big Ten Tournament semifinal held in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 29, 2022, while pitching for the University of Michigan against Iowa.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Iowa’s coach Rick Heller alerted the umpiring crew to suspicious behavior.

Weiss was seen rubbing the edge of his glove in an unusual way between pitches.

Upon inspection, umpires found a foreign sticky substance (reported as Pine Tar) on his glove.

This violated NCAA Baseball Rule 9-2c, which prohibits pitchers from possessing or applying foreign substances to the ball or their hands.

He was immediately ejected and later handed a four-game suspension by the Big Ten.

This incident overshadowed Weiss’s otherwise promising season. He had recently shown signs of returning to form after earlier struggles with his ERA.

It didn’t end his career, but it certainly complicated his trajectory at a key moment.

Soon after the incident, Weiss transferred to Clemson University as a graduate student, joining the baseball team as a relief pitcher.

At Clemson, Weiss made 14 relief appearances, finishing his college baseball career with over 100 innings pitched and 140 strikeouts across both programs.

Later, he joined the Kingsport Axmen for summer league play on June 25, 2023. However, no further assignments to the team have been recorded after that date.

Since then, Weiss has focused on his collegiate career, but there is no indication that he is still with Kingsport or currently active in any other summer league roster.

Additionally, Weiss maintains a personal presence on social media, including an Instagram account, where he shares personal updates and photos.

His most recent post, dated May 20, 2025, features a baseball-related image, suggesting he may have been involved in baseball activities at that time.

However, there is no official confirmation of his current professional status or team affiliation.
