Cat Osterman, a legendary Olympic softball player, and husband Joey Ashley, a seasoned coach and athlete, make up a power couple in the world of sports, balancing impressive careers with a strong family bond.

Cat Osterman is a retired American softball pitcher and one of the sport’s most accomplished players.

A four-time collegiate All-American for the University of Texas at Austin, she set numerous records, including the NCAA Division I strikeout ratio (14.34)

She also achieved the Big 12 career pitching Triple Crown with the most wins, ERA, and strikeouts.

Osterman won gold at the 2004 Olympics and silver at the 2008 and 2020 Olympics as part of Team USA.

In the National Pro Fastpitch league, she was the first overall draft pick, leading in career strikeout ratio (10.90) and no-hitters (6).

She was named the top pitcher in NCAA history and claimed the 2020 Athletes Unlimited Softball championship.

Osterman achieved multiple championships, dominated statistically, and earned recognition as one of softball’s all-time greats.

Joey Ashley, a respected coach and athlete, is known for his successful sports career and his role as the supportive husband of U.S. Olympian Cat Osterman.

Raised in Port Aransas, Texas, Ashley excelled in golf and basketball. He played four seasons of golf and three of basketball at the University of Texas, Port Aransas.

Likewise, he also served as the head coach for Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville and MacArthur High School in San Antonio.

During his tenure, he led teams to 12 district championships and 12 UIL State Tournament appearances in the 5A and 6A ranks.

His success earned him the 2010 San Antonio Express-News Golf Coach of the Year award. Additionally, he guided over 30 players to collegiate golf careers.

Ashley moved to collegiate coaching as an assistant at Texas State, helping set school records and achieve a record-low team scoring average in the 2018-19 season.

He also developed top players, including All-Conference and NCAA postseason participants.

Currently, Ashley is in his fourth season as an assistant coach for the UTSA men’s golf program.

He has helped guide the Roadrunners to multiple top-five finishes and a Conference USA Championship appearance in 2021-22.

Under his leadership, UTSA recorded eight top-10 finishes in the 2022-23 season.

Ashley holds a Master’s in education administration and a Bachelor’s in multidisciplinary studies from Concordia University.

The couple married in 2016 and lives in San Antonio with Ashley’s daughter, Bracken, and their daughter, Jaycee.

After an initial college romance, the couple reconnected, and Ashley proved to be the support needed for Osterman to make a comeback to professional softball for the Tokyo Olympics.

He even served as her catcher during the pandemic so that she could keep training despite the restrictions.

Joey Ashley is very committed to athletics and family, being highly involved in sports, and supporting Osterman.
