The popular British track and field athlete Steve Cram’s parents are Maria Cram and Bill Cram.

Steve Cram is a former British middle-distance runner who was born on October 14, 1960, in Gateshead, England. He created several world records throughout his career and was the first man to run 1500 m under 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

He rose to prominence during the 1980s as one of the world’s leading middle-distance runners, often competing against other icons of the era, such as Sebastian Coe, Steve Ovett, and Said Aouita.

Cram began his athletic career as a junior runner and quickly became a promising talent. He won his first national title in 1976 in the 1500 meters when he was just 15 years old.

Two years later, he won the European Junior Championship in the 1500 meters, cementing his status as a rising star. In the following years, Cram continued to improve and started to compete at the senior level.

Steve was a lanky young man with exceptional athletic ability. He began running at an early age and was selected for the British Olympic team in 1980 after placing second in the mile at Crystal Palace to Steve Ovett. At the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games, Cram advanced to the 1500 m final, where he finished eighth. 

At the 1980 Moscow Olympics, he narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the 1500 meters, finishing fourth behind Coe, Ovett, and John Walker.

He is also the chairman of the English Institute of Sport and the founder and Chairman of COCO, a worldwide charity set up to break down barriers to child education and reduce infant mortality.

Steve’s mother’s name is Maria Cram, and she is of German origin. His mother was his biggest supporter, she used to watch his every match on television and used to pray for his success. 

Similarly, his father name is Bill Cram, and he is a police officer. He helped him to achieve his goals and success during his struggling days. His parents taught them the value of struggle and hard work.

From a young age, he was taught the value of hard work. His father imbibed in the boys a strong sense of ethics and morals. Cram’s parents were very supportive during his struggle days.

After retiring from competitive running, Cram became a sports commentator and presenter for the BBC, covering major athletics events such as the Olympics Games and the World Championships.

Cram retired from athletics in 1994 and remain the UK record holder over the 2000 m. He was the coach of Laura Weightman, Thomas Lancashire, and Ross Murray. In April 2014, Cram joined British Athletics as an advisor and mentor in the run-up to the 2016 Summer Olympics.

He was also involved in the organization of major sporting events, including the 2012 London Olympics, where he was a member of the organization committee.

The former athlete was named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1983 and won the United Press International Athlete in 1985.

He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1986 and Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2015 New Year Honour for services to sport.
