Camille Hensarling was a tremendous athlete who passed away in her husband’s arms at her residence in Lafayette with her family by her side.
She was only 24 years old at her untimely passing on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Camille Hensarling was a force of nature, and her story is one of breathtaking athleticism, professional promise, and a fierce battle fought with unwavering grace.
Her energy was channeled into excellence from an early age.
She grew up immersed in sport, playing soccer with her sister Clare, dancing at Jill Listi, and training in trampoline with her sister Catherine. She ran track, played volleyball, and cheered at Our Lady of Fatima.
Later, she truly exploded as a track and field phenom at St. Thomas More Catholic High School. She holds multiple school records, including the blistering 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
Camille was a natural leader, and her prowess earned her a spot to compete in the long jump for Louisiana State University. After her athletic career, she transitioned seamlessly into the world of commercial real estate.
Undoubtedly, her untimely passing saddened the whole community, and many remembered her in their heartfelt tribute.
Millie, you were a light in this world everyone should have been able to witness. Camille was such a beautiful, compassionate, loyal, and inspiring friend to have by your side. I am so grateful for our memories & I will forever cherish them. My thoughts and prayers are with Gregory, the Hensarlings, and the Mahtooks. May God watch over you all🤍🙏

Camille Hensarling Family Mourns The Tragic Loss
Camille Ann Hensarling, the daughter of Richard Neal Hensarling, Sr. and Rachel Harmon Hensarling, was born on July 1, 2001.
Her parents raised her in a close-knit family alongside her siblings, Richard Neal Jr., Matthew Thomas, Frances Clare, and Catherine Grace Hensarling.
Camille lived her life with an unparalleled joy and a profound understanding that every moment was a gift to be cherished. She was brimming with personality from a young age.
She was known as a screaming mimi for her vibrant presence and was honest and forthright.
The Hensarling home was filled with laughter, competitive board games, and dances performed for the family.
Camille found delight in life’s simplest pleasures, like long walks with her husband, morning coffee with her family, baking sourdough and cookies for others, dancing in her car to favorite tunes, watching Disney movies as the family’s princess, and caring for babies and kittens.
Our beautiful Camille. Loved by so many people. My little sister married Gregory Mahtook and showed the world what true unconditional love is. She is forever my role model and always our Millie Bird.
Richard Hensarling
Her greatest love was her husband, Gregory Mahtook, and the entire Mahtook family warmly embraced her.
They were married on January 4, 2025, and were inseparable, spending nearly every hour together cooking, hunting, attending daily Mass, praying, and singing classic country music.
Gregory adored her completely and stood steadfastly by her side through every joy and challenge.
Furthermore, her husband, parents, and siblings survive her. She shared a close bond with her mother-in-law, Stephanie Kaufman Mahtook; sister-in-law, Anna-Corinne Mahtook Daigle, and her husband, Jordan; her nephews, Robert Charles Daigle and Godchild, John-David Jordan Daigle.
Her maternal grandparents, Ernest Ray Harmon and Sonja Mills Harmon; paternal grandfather, Larry Reid Hensarling, Sr.; and her father-in-law, Gregory Charles Mahtook, Sr., preceded her in death.
Camille’s family held a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at noon in The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette.
Moreover, the family requests that visitation be observed on Friday at Martin & Castille’s downtown location from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary recited at 6:30 PM.
Interment will be held in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Lafayette. Pallbearers will be Richard Neal Hensarling, Jr., Matthew Thomas Hensarling, Jordan Tucker Daigle, Craig Castleman Greene, II, Ethan Alexander Mouton, Stephen Michael Mahtook, and Ernest Kevin Harmon.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Camille Hensarling Mahtook Memorial Fund.

Camille Hensarling Was A Cancer Survivor
Camille Hensarling was a young woman who showed incredible strength, faith, and courage.
In March 2020, when she was only 18, she was diagnosed with a sporadic and severe eye cancer. It was a shocking diagnosis for someone so young.
Camille faced her illness with incredible bravery.
She never complained, even when things were tough, and she never gave up. She was so strong that people sometimes forgot how much she was going through.
The realtor made sure to live a whole and happy life, doing everything she wanted to do.
Her great strength came from her deep Catholic faith. She prayed every day, and her faith was her guide, especially after she got sick.

After 6 months of treatment, I’m cancer free!!!!!!!!! God is SO good!!! The treatment will continue, but I wanted to give a huge thank you to everyone for the countless pravers! I’m so overwhelmed with iov and love!!!! And a special thanks to our guardian angel, we love you forever Mr. Greg😇💖
Her amazing fight is inspiring. She will be remembered for her joy, her silly personality, her loud voice, and her kindness.
