Lou Williams is the son of the late Willie Louis Williams and Janice Faulkner. When Lou was just eight years old, his father passed away, leaving his mother to shape him into who he is today.

Louis Tyrone Williams, commonly known as Lou Williams, was born on October 27, 1986. He is a former American professional basketball player who last played for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

His professional career started early after the Philadelphia 76ers drafted him directly out of high school as the 45th overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft.

Williams spent seven seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers before joining the Atlanta Hawks in 2012. After two seasons with the Hawks, he was traded to the Toronto Raptors in the 2014 offseason.

Williams played a season with the Raptors before signing with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2015. In the middle of the 2016-17 NBA season, he was traded to the Houston Rockets.

After completing the season with the Rockets, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2017 offseason and later to the Atlanta Hawks in 2021.

Lou Williams is a 3-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year who has played the most career games off the bench, surpassing Dell Curry’s record in February 2022.

After 17 years of professional basketball, Williams announced his retirement at 36 on June 18, 2023.

Lou Williams Parents

Lou was born to his parents, Willie Louis William and Janice Faulkner. His father, Willie, served the country in the military.

During Lou’s childhood, his father, Willie, was not involved in sports and relied on a wheelchair for enhanced mobility.

Despite not being a sports enthusiast, Willie was a football fan and fond of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He owned pool halls and led a self-focused lifestyle.

Lou affirmed that he never witnessed his father standing up from the wheelchair. Tragically, Willie passed away when Lou was only eight, leaving cherished childhood memories behind.

When his father passed away, a profound emptiness consumed Lou’s life, and he struggled to cope for a considerable period.

However, his mother, Janice, brought him outside the darkness and made him who he is today.

In an interview with Lee Jenkins, Lou said that Lou’s memories of him became somewhat blurry after his father’s death. Fragments of watching football games, listening to his father’s Army stories, and the constant presence of the wheelchair floated in his mind.

Despite the haziness, Lou is sure they shared a strong bond and reckons his father had always been there for him.

Lou William’s Supportive Mother

After her husband passed away, Janice and her sons moved to Atlanta. Apart from Lou, she has another son named Mac Williams.

Janice’s support goes beyond being a devoted fan and providing emotional encouragement. She also plays a crucial role in Lou’s professional life.

As the Executive Director of Lou William Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Janice actively contributes to the foundation’s mission.

Before pursuing her professional career, Janice studied at the Memphis School of Commerce.

On Instagram, Lou’s mother, Janice, has a private account with the handle @2commamama, where she goes by Janice Wofford.
