Francis Ngannou dedicated his PFL debut victory to his late son Kobe, who tragically passed away earlier this year. It was an emotional moment for him, who fought with determination and won.

Despite growing up in poverty and having little formal education, Francis Zavier Ngannou made a name for himself as a Cameroonian/French mixed martial artist and professional boxer.

Currently signed to the PFL, Ngannou competed in the heavyweight division of the UFC from 2015 to 2022.

Francis Ngannou Revealed That His Son Kobe Passed Away Due To A Brain Malfunction

Despite his well-documented career, Francis has kept his private life under the public radar. His fans were oblivious that Ngannou is a father and a family person.

However, in April of 2024, Ngannou made a heart-breaking revelation about his 15-month-old son Kobe passing away on social media.

This disheartening news shocked fans as the MMA fighter hid his personal life for so long and never shared any details regarding his fatherhood.

Ngannou had a hard time coping with this immense loss and shared his grief with his fans.

Later, Ngannou disclosed the cause of his son’s unfortunate and untimely demise.

He revealed that his son Kobe passed away due to a brain malfunction that had gone undiagnosed.

He further elaborated that despite seeking medical help and undergoing tests in Cameroon and Saudi Arabia, the doctors couldn’t detect Kobe’s condition.

However, after Kobe received some treatment, Ngannou became a little hopeful and was able to return to his training routine.

He stated:

“He has some malformation on his brain, which is something that we didn’t know. He passed out twice. The first time was in Cameroon. We took him to the hospital. They didn’t find anything. The second time was in [Saudi Arabia], we took him to the hospital. They ran a lot of exams; they didn’t do anything...”

Unfortunately, Ngannou’s happiness and hope were short-lived, as after some days, he lost his son.

He recalled that day, revealing that he felt a sudden, overwhelming need to contact his family during a cycling session at the gym.

After some deliberate attempts to contact his family, the MMA fighter eventually got in touch with his brother.

His brother became the bearer of the bad news, revealing that Kobe had lost consciousness and sadly passed away.

“He said, ‘Bro, things are not going well here.’ I’m like, ‘What is it?’ [He said,] ‘Kobe, he passed out; he’s not breathing. We are at the hospital, they kicked me out from the room.’ I’m like, ‘What’s happening?’ As we are talking, he’s also trying to get information, so I lost him for like three or four minutes.”
