Javier Castellano, a jockey who has been involved in horse racing since 1996, is married to Abby Castellano.

Javier Castellano was born to his parents on October 23, 1977, in Maracaibo, Zulia State, Venezuela.

He started his jockey career in 1996 as a native of Venezuela. After a year, he moved to the United States to continue his journey.

The 2017 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame has already won numerous prestigious races, such as the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, the Belmont Stakes, and the Breeders’ Cup.

Moreover, he was presented with George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award in a Runhappy Winner’s Circle ceremony.

Aside from his success in riding, Castellano is also recognized for his charitable work.

The horse rider has been providing financial assistance to the injured and supports the permanently disabled jockeys’ fund.

Javier Castellano is married to his wife, Abby Castellano. The pair tied the knot on July 12, 2004, after meeting in the horse racing industry while working.

Abby is the daughter of Terry Meyocks, who was the president of the Association of New York Racing. Meyocks also worked as the national manager of the Jockeys’ Guild.

Additionally, Abby grew up in the jockey industry and knew all the ups and downs of the business.

Knowing all the hardships jockeys have to go through, she has greatly supported her husband and is often seen cheering him on at the races.

In 2006, Javier and Abby welcomed their first child, a daughter, Kayla Castellano. After three years, the couple was blessed with their second child, Sienna Castellano, followed by their third child, a son Brady, in 2013.

Javier Castellano has had a very long and successful career in riding. He has ridden in the Kentucky Derby numerous times.

Despite not having any luck in his previous 15 attempts, jockey Castellano’s persistence paid off as the 16th time was indeed a charm – he won the 2023 Kentucky Derby.

Mage came from behind to capture the crown, surpassing Two Phil’s down the stretch and holding off favorite Angel of Empire to earn the victory. 

Javier Castellano rode Mage in Kentucky Derby (G1) on May 6, 2023. 

His first Derby race was on a Caracaro (now retired), trained by Delgado. Similarly, he has also ridden Gunnevera, Gemologist, for his Kentucky Derby races.
