Former Spring-Ford High School Basketball Player Robert T. Berkey’s Death Marks the Passing of a Devoted Family Man and Community Servant

Robert T. Berkey, age 81, of Linfield, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia H. Berkey and the cherished son of the late Wallace and Pauline (Novak) Berkey.

Born on February 12, 1944, in Pottstown, PA, Mr. Berkey graduated from Spring-Ford High School, where he showcased his talent on the basketball team.

He pursued his passion for skilled trades by completing the carpentry program at Williamson Trade School in Media.

Following his education, he honorably served in the National Guard, stationed at Fort Sam Houston in Texas.

Mr. Berkey then applied his expertise as a carpenter at Schappell & Hampton in Royersford, PA.

Beyond his professional life, Mr. Berkey cherished his family and devoted much of his time to them.

He loved tending his yard, managing his property, and especially enjoyed fishing with his children.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, he passionately followed the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.

Mr. Berkey dedicated himself to community service as well. He served as a Fire Police Captain for the Linfield Fire Company and held the distinction of being Linfield’s first Jr. Firefighter, a role he treasured deeply.

He leaves behind two devoted children, Jessica, the wife of Darrin Benfield, and Robert C. Berkey Sr., the husband of Penny Berkey.

His legacy continues through his three grandchildren—Katrina Ellis, Rachel Pauline Berkey, and Robert C. Berkey Jr.—and four great-grandchildren: Hennessy Haverstock, Mychal Ellis, Belladonna Lilly, and Julian Lilly.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sue Berkey, wife of the late Wallace Berkey.

Family and friends are invited to honor Robert T. Berkey’s life at a memorial service on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA.

Rev. Charles R. O’Hara will officiate, with burial following at Parker Ford Baptist Church Cemetery in Spring City, PA.

Friends may visit the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM that morning. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph R.C. Church, 3640 Schuylkill Road, Spring City, PA 19475.

Robert T. Berkey’s death marks the loss of a devoted family man, skilled craftsman, and committed community servant. His life leaves a lasting impact on all who knew him.
