It also included the wording “Introducing Islam,” honoring Khabib’s achievements as a Muslim fighter.

Khabib Kept His Mother’s Promise And Retired From MMA Following His Father’s Death

Born on September 20, 1988, Khabib Nurmagomedov, 36, was raised by his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, and his mother, whose identity has been kept private.

His father, Abdulmanap, was a Russian military veteran, former judoka, and combat sports coach. The Russian Book of Records named him the country’s most successful compact sambo coach.

He was the head coach of Eagles MMA and had coached his son, Khabib.

At the end of April 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Abdulmanap was hospitalized in the 2nd city hospital with bilateral pneumonia caused by COVID-19.

He was taken to Moscow on a private jet, his condition rapidly worsened, and he died there on July 3, 2020, at 57. On July 4, he was buried in his native village.

Follwing Abdulmanap’s death, Khabib’s mother told him to hang up his MMA gloves. Khabib officially announced his retirement in 2021.

Although Khabib missed fighting, he had no intention of breaking his mother’s promise. During an interview with a Russian media outlet, Khabib said,

“My mother is the most precious thing I have left. Come on, you won’t push me to do things that disappoint my mother.”
