Former Detroit Tigers Assistant GM Sam Menzin’s Net Worth Was Likely Close To $1.5 Million Before Resignation

Sam Menzin, the Tigers’ assistant general manager, resigned on April 3 just before the team fired him for inappropriate behavior at work.

Although the team didn’t give specific details, it was reported that Menzin had sent explicit photos to two former female employees.

The women who had worked with the team shared that Menzin sent disturbing pictures of himself through Snapchat.

Further, another woman, who worked in Major League Baseball but not for the Tigers, confessed that between 2018 and 2019, Menzin had also sent photos of his private parts through Snapchat.

Menzin, however, explained that he stepped down from his role to pursue a new career path and needed to return to New York to take care of “family matters.”

A Look At Sam Menzin’s Career and Salary Progression With The Detroit Tigers

A reasonable estimate of Menzin’s net worth could range from nearly $1.5 million to possibly more.

Menzin spent 13 years with the Tigers organization, starting as a baseball operations intern in 2012 and eventually rising to the position of assistant general manager.

Initially, he worked on arbitration cases from the other side and analyzed minor-league free agents and trade-deadline targets throughout the 2012 season.

When the next year came around, there wasn’t a position for Menzin in the budget.

The Tigers knew they had an exceptional talent in Menzin, so they figured out a way to keep him around.

Entering spring training, Dombrowski asked Menzin to become assistant to the traveling secretary.

The salary of an Assistant General Manager (AGM) in MLB can vary depending on the team’s budget.

Given his long career progression with the Tigers, his salary at his resignation could have been between $250,000 and $400,000 annually.

Before joining the Tigers, he had internships with the Mets and Turner-Gary Sports, a player agency.

Internships with the New York Mets, a Major League Baseball team, typically pay between $15 and $20 per hour.

If it was a full-time internship lasting about 10-12 weeks, Menzin could have earned between $6,000 and $10,000 for the duration.

Similarly, as for his internship with Turner-Gary Sports, a player agency, the salary might have likely ranged from $12 to $18 per hour.

For a full-time position at that rate, he would have earned around $5,000 to $8,000 over a few months.
