Recent speculation surrounding Shon Gables, beloved marathon runner and journalist, has led to searches for “Shon Gables fired” after her sudden disappearance from Atlanta’s airwaves, raising questions about whether she was actually let go.
Shon Gables, the 54-year-old primary evening news anchor for WGCL/CBS46 (now known as Atlanta News First or WANF), has officially left the station.
This comes after six months off the air. Her last appearance was in February 2025. At first, it was described as a personal leave.
In July 2025, WANF general manager Erik Schrader told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that she was away for unspecified personal reasons. He added that she would not be returning after seven years with the team.
Shon shared her own words in a statement to the AJC:
“Atlanta, WANF, and Gray Media have been very good to me, and I’m grateful for the time I’ve spent here. Due to ongoing personal matters, I will not be providing further comment. I respectfully ask for privacy for myself and my family at this time.”

From all reports, this wasn’t a firing, but rather a mutual parting tied to personal issues. Erik Schrader praised her highly. He said he was “so impressed with how much she always wanted to improve her skillset. She helped everybody raise their game. She’ll always be part of the ANF family.“
Her co-anchor, Blair Miller, echoed that warmth. He said-:
“The minute I met her, I knew how passionate she was about her job and the people around her, She had a way of telling the most difficult stories to the people of Atlanta but also bringing life and humor to stories that people remembered on a daily basis. It was a joy to sit alongside her every night as a colleague and a friend.”

Shon’s not just a Journalist, she’s a Marathon Runner, a Mom, a Veteran, and a Filmmaker
Born and raised in Oklahoma, Shon earned an economics degree from the University of Oklahoma. She didn’t stop there.

She served as a U.S. Army reservist for seven years, building discipline that would serve her well in high-pressure newsrooms.
Later, in 2019, she added an MBA from Louisiana Tech University to her resume.
Her broadcasting journey took her across the country. She started in Wichita, Kansas, at KWCH, where she reported and anchored.
From there, she moved to stations in Oklahoma City, Dallas, New York, Detroit, and Shreveport, Louisiana. Each stop honed her skills in delivering news with poise and empathy.
In 2018, Shon joined what was then CBS46 in Atlanta. It came after the sudden death of anchor Amanda Davis. She began in the mornings but quickly shifted to evenings.
Even when Gray Media bought the station in 2022 and rebranded it to Atlanta News First, Shon stayed on, becoming a familiar face for viewers.
Outside the studio, Shon is a dedicated marathon runner. She’s often shared her love for hitting the pavement, calling herself a “runner” in her social media bios.

In interviews, she’s talked about how running keeps her fit and focused, especially as a busy mom and professional.
She’s also an aspiring vegan and plant-based foodie; peeking into her fridge reveals a commitment to healthy living that inspires many.
Life hasn’t been all smooth for Shon. She’s been married three times and has three children. Her first husband was R&B singer-songwriter Bryan Abrams from the group Color Me Badd.
Then came business executive Peter Klamka. In 2010, she married Anthony Robinson. Balancing family with a demanding career isn’t easy, and her recent personal matters highlight that even public figures need space.
Shon has ventured beyond news, too. She stepped behind the camera to produce her first film, Lord Help Us, released nationally in May 2007.
Her next project was The Mocha Manual to a Fabulous Pregnancy DVD, which debuted on Mother’s Day 2008. It’s based on the bestselling book by Kimberly Allers, published by Amistad/HarperCollins. These efforts show her creative side and passion for storytelling in new ways.
Recent searches and social media chatter about “Shon Gables fired” lack credible support.
Sources like the Atlanta Journal-Constitution confirm it was a leave leading to a permanent goodbye. Her Instagram still lists her as a TV news anchor and volleyball fan, indicating she’s open to new opportunities.
