Chris Massey, a former NFL long snapper, has made headlines recently for an altercation at his son’s school, but beyond the news, there’s a strong family story.

Chris and his wife, Sarah Massey, a 26-year partner, have built a life together with three kids.

Chris Massey grew up in Kanawha County, West Virginia. He graduated from East Bank High School.

From there, he went to Marshall University, where he played football. In 2015, Marshall inducted him into their Sports Hall of Fame.

Chris had a solid NFL career. He spent nine seasons with the St. Louis Rams from 2002 to 2010. His last year was with the Chicago Bears in 2011.

As a long snapper, he was reliable and tough. Now 45, Chris lives a quieter life, but he stays connected to sports through his kids.

Sarah Massey, Chris’s College Sweetheart and Career Woman

Chris Massey’s wife, Sarah Massey, is his partner in every way. They met at Marshall University while attending college.

Sarah graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in business and marketing. She didn’t stop there.

In 2002, she earned an Executive Master’s in Business from the University of Charleston.

Sarah has built an impressive career in marketing. Since 2015, she has worked alongside Dr. Moosavi at Ultimate Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery as a marketing coordinator.

In May 2023, she became the Marketing Director at The Retreat Aesthetic & Vitality Center.

She also handles practice liaison duties. Sarah is passionate about her work. She often shares her love for her job on social media.

The couple married in 1999, right after college. They’ve been together for over 25 years. Sarah calls herself “Wife to Chris” on Instagram. She also loves French bulldogs and her family. Their bond started young and has stayed strong.

Chris and Sarah have three children: Maddyx, Maybre, and Jax (whose full name is Jaxsyn). Each kid is active and following their own path.

The oldest, Maddyx, is studying to become a Physician Assistant at Marshall University. She follows in her parents’ footsteps by attending their alma mater.

Maddyx was a cheerleader in high school. Now in her early 20s, she’s focused on her studies and future career.

Maybre is a talented athlete and musician. She plays basketball at Winfield High School, where she is a center on the girls’ varsity team.

She’s in the class of 2027, so she’s been playing since around 2023. Maybre also shines in music.

She plays clarinet and made all-state. In middle school, she was a member of the all-area band. At about 16 years old, she’s busy with sports, band, and school.

The youngest, Jax, is 13 and loves sports. He plays football at Winfield Middle School. He adores his family and dogs. Jax takes fantasy football seriously, just like his dad.

The family lives in West Virginia. They support each other’s passions. Sports run in the blood, from Chris’s NFL days to the kids’ games.

On August 21, 2025, Chris got into a Fight at Winfield Middle School

It started after his son, Jax, finished his football practice. Chris approached assistant coach Seth Lewis. Lewis is also a Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy, but he was off-duty.

Things escalated in the parking lot. Lewis asked Chris to leave. Chris refused. Lewis went to his cruiser for handcuffs and OC spray.

He called for backup. Chris paced and argued. When Lewis tried to arrest him, Chris went nose-to-nose and said, “I’m not leaving.”

Lewis shoved Chris to create space. Chris smacked the handcuffs away. Lewis sprayed him with OC spray. Chris lunged at Lewis’s legs, trying to tackle him.

He took off his shirt and got into a fighting stance. Chris tried to strike Lewis but missed. After a struggle, Lewis handcuffed him. Lewis chipped a tooth in the fight.

The school’s video footage was reviewed. Deputy Corporal A.J. Huff filed the complaint. Chris faces four misdemeanors: obstructing an officer, battery, trespassing, and disorderly conduct.

Chris posted a $2,500 bond. His pretrial hearing is set for November 17, 2025. His attorney, Tim DiPiero, says Chris was not the aggressor. Their investigation shows he didn’t start it.

Despite the incident, the Masseys seem close. Sarah supports Chris through thick and thin. Their kids keep them busy with school and extracurricular activities, such as sports.

From college sweethearts to parents of three, Chris and Sarah have a story of love and resilience. As the legal case unfolds, the family focuses on what matters most: each other.
