McCullough Pickens, a professional golfer and former Augusta and Belmont University athlete, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at an untimely age of 27.
According to some social media reports, McCullough Pickens apparently took his own life; however, his family has not released any official details regarding the actual cause of his untimely death.
McCullough Pickens was an exceptional golfer who won the hearts of many with his on and off-field journey.
Standing 5’10”, Pickens turned professional in 2020 after a strong collegiate career at Augusta and Belmont University.
The late McCullough Pickens began his golf career at a very young age while attending Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia.
While at Glynn Academy, he earned All-State honors as a junior and helped Glynn Academy qualify for the 2015 GISA State Tournament.
He further continued his golf journey, joining Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2016, where he played in 29 rounds as a freshman and posted a 76.3 scoring average in the 2016-2017 season.
McCullough also had three top-10 finishes as a freshman and competed in the Fall 2017 season as a sophomore in three events, averaging 75.6.
Similarly, he transferred to Augusta University as a sophomore to compete in the second half of the 2017-18 season.
As a sophomore at Augusta, McCullough competed in three tournaments and nine total rounds and posted an average score of 75.11.
He also earned a starting spot in all three of his events, and as a junior in the 2018-19 season, McCullough helped the team win the MEAC Conference Championship and reach the NCAA regional tournament.
A resident of St. Simons Island, Georgia, the late McCullough further competed on the PGA Tour, showcasing promise and dedication to the sports community.
The untimely death of McCullough Pickens has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and loved ones.

McCullough Pickens Is Survived By His Parents, Morris and Suzanne, Three Siblings, and The Whole Family
The late professional golfer, McCullough, was born Morris McCullough Pickens Jr. on May 26, 1998, in Columbia, South Carolina, to father Dr. Morris Pickens and mother, Suzanne Pickens.
McCullough was not just an amazing athlete but also a great son to his parents.
While Dr. Morris and Suzanne Pickens haven’t shared anything about their son’s untimely death as they are currently grieving, they often share pictures of McCullough Pickens on social media, expressing their love and pride for him.
Furthermore, Pickens came from a family deeply rooted in the world of sports. His father, Dr. Morris Pickens, is a well-known sports psychologist who has worked with numerous PGA Tour players and other elite athletes.
Dr. Morris has been serving as a sports Psychologist for Sea Island Golf Company for almost 21 years. He joined the company in 2005. He earned his Master’s and PhD. from the University of Virginia in 1995 and his BA in Psychology from Clemson University in 1991.
In addition to his parents, McCullough Pickens is survived by his three siblings, Sellers, Emerson, and Worth Pickens, his grandparents, and the whole family.
A funeral service for McCullough will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM at St. Simons Community Church, 2700 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island, Georgia 31522.
