The Costa Mesa community is mourning the tragic loss of Allison Castillo, a 15-year-old girl whose life was taken far too soon in a senseless act of violence.

On Saturday, August 9, 2025, Allison was fatally stabbed in a gang-related incident.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the residential area, 700 block of Shalimar Drive.

Allison was found lying on the sidewalk with a critical stab wound, and first responders from Costa Mesa Police and Fire & Rescue immediately began CPR before rushing her to a nearby hospital.

But despite their efforts, Allison succumbed to her injuries later that day.

According to investigators, the suspect, Matthew Juarez, a 31-year-old gang member from Anaheim, was identified quickly through witness accounts and surveillance footage.

Juarez was arrested later that evening at his home in Anaheim with assistance from the Anaheim Police Department.

Authorities have stated that the attack was gang-related, though they have not yet disclosed the motive or Juarez’s connection to Allison.

The nature of the confrontation remains under investigation, and police are working to determine whether Allison was targeted or caught in a broader conflict.

Additionally, detectives from the Costa Mesa Police Department’s gang unit are leading the investigation.
